Staff members in the Child Nutrition Department value the opportunity to participate in your child's educational and nutritional experiences. Our goal is to provide a balanced and nutritious meal, promoting positive food habits at a minumum cost. We hope this information will answer questions you may have about our services. If you have other questions or concerns, please contact your cafeteria manager or Food Director, Tammy Williams.
The Child Nutrition Department operates under the agreement with the Texas Department of Agriculture for the school breakfast and lunch programs. Under this agreement, we comply with certain state and federal guidelines and strive to provide quality food and nutrition to our students. This service provides every student an equal opportunity to learn and grow without nutritonal hindrances. Menus are designed under specific USDA guidelines for food content, considering nutrients and increased calorie needs for growing years. We strive to include good food habits, and utilize USDA commodities that are donated to us, within our menus.
Attention Parents
For your convenience, we recommend prepayment of meals by the week, biweekly, or monthly. Many students do not make it to the cafeteria with loose change. Account balances roll forward from month to month if all of the meal account money is not used.

WHCCISD Child Nutrition Personnel work hard at keeping abreast of new developments in the field of child nutrition by taking continuing education classes and attending workshops during the summer months. Many of the members are certified in the field of Child Nutrition, a mark of their education, training, and willingness to pursue professional growth.
Free and reduced priced meals are available for all eligible students. If you feel your child may be eligible , please complete one application per household and return it to the school or the superintendent’s office. If you have any questions about income eligibility, please contact Patti Graham at 936-274-5061 x. 102.
School Child Nutrition is an investment in education because it directly benefits the youth of our nation. To each a hungry child is difficult, if not impossible. Proper child nutrition provides the fuel, which provides the energy and mental alertness to make learning possible.

Texas Public School Nutrition Policy
Texas implemented a statewide nutrition policy during August 2004. Revisions to that policy have been implemented in August 2007. Parents are a major influence on student’s food choices and life style. We encourage your family to make healthy meal choices and to develop an active life style. WHCCISD Child Nutrition Department has implemented the new regulations to meet the State Nutrition Policy. Some of the policies are:
- Portions sizes of many items have been mandated.
- Fried potato products will be a maximum of 3 ounces per serving.
- No snacks or beverages can be provided to the classroom unless they meet Texas Nutrition policy Standards.
- Meals, other than those prepared by the cafeteria, may be sent for your child only.
Please visit www.squaremeals.org for nutrition policy.
